
The Dominican Republic men’s senior team defeated Panama in the Santo Domingo qualifier window for an Americas slot in the FIBA World Cup. The game ended 70-61 in favor of the Dominican Republic. The quarters were: 21-14, 13-12, 13-17, 23-18.
The Dominican Republic next plays Venezuela in Barquisimeto, Venezuela to move ahead in the qualification. The game is Monday, 29 August at 6:10pm. It will be transmitted by CDN Deportes (Channel 8) for the Dominican Republic.

The Thursday, 25 August 2022 game marked the debut of NBA Indian Pacer’s Chris Duarte, wearing the uniform of the Dominican Republic senior basketball team for the first time.
In addition to Delgado and Duarte, the Dominican squad is made up of Andrés Feliz, Jeromy Rodríguez, Sadiel Rojas, Richard Bautista, Rigoberto Mendoza, Víctor Liz, Ángel Núñez, Luís Santos, Jean Montero, Eloy Vargas, Jhery Matos, Jassel Pérez and David Jones.
The teams playing in Group E are Bahamas, Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Panama.
The games against Panama and Venezuela are part of the second phase of the qualifiers for the FIBA 2023 Basketball World Cup to be held in Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan.
The FIBA Americas qualifier is in its second round. Each team gets to play home-and-away against the three new teams in their group over three windows. The second round windows periods are August 2022, November 2022, and February 2023 with two games per team being played in each window.
At the end of these additional six games per team, the top three teams in each group, plus the best fourth team, will qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
In Group E in the fourth window, the Dominican Republic is behind Canada and Venezuela and tied with Argentina for third place.
