
Reportedly a 4.9 earthquake had its epicenter in the eastern province of El Seibo at around 1:31pm on Saturday, 1 October 2022. The shake was felt in the capital city, too.
Diario Libre reported: According to data from the National Seismology Center, the earthquake had a depth of 102 kilometers and its epicenter was registered six kilometers from the head municipality of El Seibo province.
Diario Libre also reported on a cave-in on Espaillat Street in the Colonial City due to the shake.
The Seismology unit at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) reported that a 4.9 Richter scale earthquake hit the area around El Seibo on Saturday afternoon at 1:31pm.
People in Puerto Rico reported the tremor as a 5.0. Local geological engineer Osiris de Leon reported on his Twitter account that the quake was 5.5 and that there was some local damage. He also placed the earthquake near Sabana de la Mar, with the center just south of Miches. The quake was deep, at least 100 kilometers down, and this might have reduced local damage in building constructed on very solid terrain.
