
Ici Haiti reports on the difficulties of securing fuel for those living in Dominican provinces on the border with Haiti. Gangs are controlling the supplies of fuel in Haiti and thousands of Haitians are now traveling to the Dominican Republic to purchase fuel stocks. This has impacted regular life for residents in border provinces.
As reported, agents of CECCOM, the Dominican organization specializing in the control of trade in of and goods, intercepted and seixed more than 8,000 gallons of fuel during recent operations in the border provinces of Elias Piña, Montecristi and Dajabon. The operations were carried out in collaboration with soldiers from the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (Cesfront), while Haitian citizens were trying to smuggle the fuel into Haiti to resell it on the black market due to the fuel shortage.
