International Poetry Week 2022

The Ministry of Culture announces the celebration of the 11th International Week of Poetry. The event is scheduled for 20-26 October 2022. This year it is dedicated to poets Mariano Lebrón Saviñón and Antonio Fernández Spencer.

Culture Minister Milagros German made the announcement at the Manual Rueda auditorium in the National Music Conservatory. She highlighted that the Poetry Week is a celebration of joy and a stimulus to creation, as well as an exercise of love for art and culture.

José Mármol, president of the organizing committee, announced the participation of several guest poets from abroad, both in person and online. He said the event is held to elevate poetry to the highest expression of feeling and thought in the symbolic richness of a language and culture, which he assures will be at the service of the best and most authentic values of humanity and civilization.

José Enrique Delmonte, executive director of the festival, said that guest poets are coming from Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Honduras, Spain, Italy, France and China.

The festival is sponsored by the Corripio Foundation, the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and the Espacios Culturales Foundation, among other entities.
