The Central Electoral Board (JCE) issued on 17 October 2022 the resolution with the procedures for manual vote count in the 2024 general elections. The procedures provide for the digitalization, scanning and transmission of the results from the electoral precincts. Automated vote machines purchased for the elections in 2020 will not be used. In May 2020, the election had to be aborted due to technical problems with the automated voting equipment.
Resolution 34-2022 establishes the municipal elections to be held in February 2024, the presidential and legislative elections in May 2024, and the possible run-off election in June 2024. Parties need to hold primaries or activities to choose their presidential candidates in October 2023.
The JCE establishes that the manual vote count will start once the polls close. Members of the electoral college are in charge of the count in the presence of the accredited political delegates and other observers. This is the same method used for the July 2020 general election.
