Dominicans choose to study psychology

Psychology is the most popular career chosen by Dominicans in national universities. According to data compiled by the Ministry of Higher Education (Mescyt), 48,774 men and women are enrolled in Dominican universities in that career. This represents 9% of all students.

The next popular careers in Dominican universities are: Accounting with 41,226 (7.7%), Law with 33,317 (6%), and the career of Education has 30,467 (5.7%).

Currently, the overall enrollment of students in public and private sector educational centers is 531,655 of which 58% (312,205) are concentrated in careers to become psychologists, accountants, lawyers, counselors, marketers, educators, civil or industrial engineers, business administrators, nurses and doctors.

The National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) sponsored the study “Training of human talent in the face of current and future demand in the Dominican Republic: Focus on professional technical and university programs that came up with the findings.

The study, which looked into data from 2019, reports that only 12% of university enrollment is in the careers with the highest salary level and employability, mainly corresponding to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Languages.
