Airlines get more time to revoke tourist card charge to Dominican nationals and residents

The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) extended through 1 March 2023 the deadline for airlines to modify their computer systems to comply with Resolution 217-2022. The resolution orders the airlines to not apply the US$10 tourist card charge to Dominican nationals and legal residents. The charge is added to airline fares and collected by the airlines that later pay the government. Dominican nationals and legal residents need to carry out a lengthy procedure to request a reimbursement of the US$10 charge.

The JAC says that the Dominican government has ordered that Banco de Reservas booths be installed at international airports so that Dominican nationals and residents can request upon arrival a refund in cash at the time of arrival or departure. The procedure has several steps and requires having on hand the boarding card.
