The Department of Airports (DA) and the Dominican Air Force announced pilots no longer have to file 24 hour advance permissions for local flights.
Dominican Air Force (FAD) head, Major General Carlos Febrillet Rodriguez said the measure is already in effect for all Dominican domestic airports. Pilots still need to comply with extra provisions required at international airports.
The measure primarily benefits pilots that want to travel within the country. Febrillet said local aeroclubs had advocated for the freedom of domestic flying for more than 20 years.
Febrillet Rodríguez said the change marks a real transformation in the management of the flow of private, non-commercial aviation and converts domestic airports into ideal spaces for the relaunching of tourism.
He said there is no reason for any aircraft that wants to move from one point to another, within Dominican territory, not to do so, as long as it is not an international airport where there are other protocols.
