CMD continues to protest ARS positions that affect physicians

The president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), Dr. Senén Caba says that the guild will be soon extending the ban on accepting private medical plans to all ARS health providers. Already, physicians are not receiving the medical plans of the two largest ARS health insurance companies. The affiliates to Universal (Banco Popular) and Mapfre (BHD Bank) need to pay for the service and request reimbursement from the health plan company.

The president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), Senén Caba said on Tuesday, 15 November 2022 that the suspension of the services will soon be extended to include all health risk insurance companies (ARS) plans in the country. He said the measure would next be applied to the entire eastern region of the Dominican Republic, from eastern Santo Domingo onwards.

The Dominican Medical Association groups all practicing physicians. The CMD is advising the health plan affiliates to move to the governmental Senasa ARS.

The CMD has announced physicians will be on strike on Thursday, 17 November and Friday, 18 November 2022 with services only maintained in emergencies and critical care services.

The physicians demand an increase in the tariffs for their services. They also reject the ARS select the doctors affiliated to the plans.

“We are demanding that the government of President Luis Abinader assume a key role in the solution of this conflict. They cannot, as they have been doing so far, look the other way and let pass a situation that affects hundreds of thousands of Dominicans because of their irresponsibility,” he emphasized.

Caba referred to the agreements signed in September 2021 when it was decided that in the following three months the parties would meet to assess tariffs and the doctors’ other demands.

Caba called for the government to take an active role in the resolving of the conflict between the health plans and the physicians.
