On Saturday, 19 November 2022, President Luis Abinader was in Palenque, San Cristóbal, half an hour west of Santo Domingo to visit the site of the first internationally-branded hotel in San Cristóbal province. The Ministry of Tourism has been investing to improve beachfront infrastructure in the area. Construction of the property is well advanced with an opening expected for March 2023.
This is the first investment by Tryp By Wyndham (formerly known as just Tryp) in the Dominican Republic. Tryp is a brand of independently-owned hotels that Wyndham acquired in 2010 and has rebranded.
Tourism Minister David Collado spoke of the good times the Dominican tourism industry is experiencing. He spoke of an occupancy rate of 85% and 83,000 hotel rooms nationwide with expectations the year will close with a record 7.2 million arrivals. He said that vacation property sales are also enjoying record numbers.
Tourism Minister David Collado said the opening of this condo hotel, scheduled for March 2023, marks an important milestone in the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry and is in line with the vision of the Ministry of Tourism that calls for “tourism in every corner.
Edward De Valle II, CEO of Grupo Valle y Co, developer of Tryp Playa Palenque, congratulated the government for the great work done in the recovery of tourism. “And it is because of all these efforts that national and foreign investors can now place their trust in my vision and that of my partners,” said De Valle II.
Tryp by Wyndham will be a four-star condo hotel and resort located in a gated residential complex on the beachfront. It will feature 44 condominium hotel units, 36 residences, 4 bungalow suites and 7 villas for overall 200 rooms. The architectural design is by Juan Sánchez, of Sánchez & Sánchez, and the interior design by Jimena Trujillo, of SAIA Arquitectos.
