Santiago Mayor Abel Martínez was hospitalized in Santiago for respiratory difficulties. Martínez is the leading pre-candidate for the former ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). A press release from his presidential campaign says Martínez suffers from asthma and is being treated for pneumonia. His medics expect a prompt recovery, but says he would be kept in the hospital for three days.
