
Colombia’s “She Is Foundation” named Dominican Amelia Vicini the “Woman Entrepreneur of Latin America.” Vicini is regarded as the wealthiest woman in the Dominican Republic. In recent years, she has been active in female empowerment and business leadership activities.
Vicini was chosen during the three-day She Is Foundation event in Cartagena, Colombia, where success stories were shared to stimulate new initiatives that make positive changes in women’s lives and their communities.
According to a press release, the selection of the Dominican businesswoman was confirmed after a rigorous process carried out by an international jury composed of senior representatives of the Board of Directors of the She Is Foundation and UN Women.
This award is held every year in Cartagena, Colombia, and is one of the largest events on gender equality and women’s empowerment in the region.
About Amelia Vicini
Vicini is a veteran of the New York publishing industry with a track record of more than 10 years. She is currently a partner at INICIA, a private asset management firm based in the Dominican Republic. She serves on INICIA’s Board of Directors and Investment Committees, and also chairs the Talent Committee. Amelia is President of the Board of Directors of INICIA Educación, an impact investment fund aimed at investing in the factors that most influence the improvement of the Dominican educational system.
She is also a member of several professional associations in the private sector and civil society, including the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), and is also a member of the Board of Regents of Barna Management School. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (Amchamdr), a past member of the Board of Directors of Educa (Acción Empresarial por la Educación) and of the Board of Directors of Save the Children US.
Amelia Vinici holds a bachelor’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College.
She Is Foundation is a non-profit for-profit foundation whose operations began in Colombia in January 2016. With more than 10,800 beneficiaries and 286 projects, it is one of the foundations with the greatest impact in Colombia.
It is dedicated to promoting, integrating and implementing gender equity, entrepreneurship and social innovation projects, led by women, with a special focus on vulnerable areas and armed conflict or otherwise.
