Almost 25,000 deported in November 2022

The Migration Agency (DGM) reports deporting 24,894 undocumented aliens in November 2022. Of these, most are Haitian immigrants. The deportations get all the press, but in reality, they are a small percentage of the number of Haitians that cross over every day with few controls.

In a press release, the general director of Migration, Venancio Alcántara, says the deportations continue after an order from President Luis Abinader. The order was given after the government received stepped-up pressures from international organizations to set up a refugee camps for Haitians in the Dominican Republic.

Alcántara says the deportations comply with the law, migratory norms, respect for human rights and international agreements.

Alcántara said that in October 2022, 20,115 illegal aliens were repatriated to their country of origin.

Alcántara said that in November, 17,000 persons were deported, another 7,599 repatriated and 2,866 unregistered because they left for their country.

The undocumented persons are taken to Elías Piña and Dajabón on the border with Haiti from where they are delivered to the Haitian authorities.
