Senate passes RD$1.48 trillion budget

The 2023 National Budget passed in two consecutive readings in the Senate, the second on 7 December 2022. 19 senators voted in favor, three against. Eight senators of the Fuerza del Pueblo abandoned the hall before the vote, arguing the draft amended laws in violation of the Constitution.

The 2023 budget had already been approved in the Chamber of Deputies.

In neither the Senate nor the Chamber of Deputies did legislators make changes to the budget draft prepared by the Ministry of Hacienda. The budget incorporates 19.2% more in spending compared to 2022.

The RD$1.48 trillion (RD$1,479,119,199,771) budget now moves to the Presidency for enactment.

The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) is majority in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
