
The Senate approved the bill that declares Samana an Ecotouristic Province. The bill is an initiative of senator Pedro Catrain (PRM-Samana) that seeks to define the promotion and regulation of ecotouristic activities in the northeastern province. The bill had already passed in the Chamber of Deputies and now moves to the Presidency for enactment.
The bill calls for creating the Ecotourism Development Council of the Province of Samana (Codepesa), a decentralized government entity under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism.
The members are representatives of the ministries of Tourism, Environment and Culture. Other Codepesa members are a representative of the governor, the municipalities of Samana and of the ecological organizations in the province. The executive director will be named and will have office in Samana city.
