The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) is asking people to return to wearing facial masks when traveling on the Santo Domingo Metro and buses. There is an outbreak in cases of Covid-19, with the 4- week positivity going from around 1% in November to 10% in December 2022.
In a recent press conference, Dr. Rufino Senén Caba, president of the CMD, stressed the impact of the recent spike in cases of Covid-19 and respiratory diseases on public health.
Dr. Senén Caba said the new sub-variant currently affecting the country is highly contagious, so people should protect themselves, especially in these enclosed spaces, where the risk of contagion is high.
Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera says that while obligatory use of masks have been eliminated even for boarding flights, it is the responsibility of each person to protect themselves.
He said that people with health conditions should always wear their masks and it is also recommended for the general population to prevent catching not only Covid-19 but the other respiratory viruses that are circulating.
