DR resumes beef exports to US market

The first container with 40,000 lbs of industrial hamburger meat was shipped to the United States. The symbolic shipment marked the reopening of the US market to Dominican beef. Beef exports had been banned for two decades.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) had announced the DR would be eligible to export raw intact beef products and by-products as of 29 April 2022.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) completed its review of the Dominican Republic’s documented inspection system for intact raw beef products, according to a document sent by then to Dr. Jaime Rafael Santoni Hernández, chief of the Veterinary Services of the General Directorate of Medicines, Food and Health Products (Digemaps), of the Ministry of Public Health.
