Public Health urges moderation during Christmas holidays

The Ministry of Public Health, through its Mental Health Department, urges the population to take preventive measures seriously during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Patricia Grullón, Director of Nutrition at the Ministry of Public Health urged that citizens see the Christmas season as a period of integration and family time and not for excesses.

Psychologist Elías Tejada called for people to avoid excess consumption of alcohol, so damaging physical and mental health. “It would be good for Dominicans in these times to stop drinking alcohol because of all the problems it causes. If despite knowing that it is harmful they are going to do it, it is good to do it responsibly, without excess, not in front of minors and that people make sure of its quality when buying it, since there are many adulterated drinks that can cause serious and even fatalities,” he said.

The specialist urged people to follow the prevention measures against cholera, Covid-19 and other diseases.

Psychologist Paola Rivas called for moderation also and urged that people “give the brain enough time to process when the body is satisfied and thus avoid cognitive dissonance.”
