After mildly pleasant days for the New Years and Christmas holidays, the National Weather Office forecasts considerable dropping in temperatures. A passing trough is also bringing scattered showers and thundershowers to the north, northeast, southeast and Central Mountain Range.
Weather forecasters say noontime temperatures range from highs of 29-32°C, but night-time temperatures are dropping due to the prevailing winds that are normal at this time of the year. Santo Domingo can expect lows of 20/22°C in the early morning. The temperatures will drop to 16/18°C in Santiago. Puerto Plata, La Altagracia (Punta Cana) and La Romana can expect temperatures of 19/21°C and Samana of 20/22°C.
High altitude areas such as Constanza, Jarabacoa (La Vega), Hondo Valle (Elías Piña) and Polo (Barahona) are experiencing temperatures of 6°C and 12°C. Onamet warns campers headed to the mountain areas such as Valle Nuevo and Pico Duarte of lows of 4°C and -2°C.
