The Tigres del Licey and the Estrellas Orientales are tied in the lead for the playoff slots in the 2022-2023 Dominican Winter Professional Baseball Championship. The Tigres defeated the Aguilas Cibaeñas and the Estrellas the Gigantes del Cibao over the Three Kings holiday.
With five games to go, mathematically, the Aguilas Cibaeñas and the Gigantes del Cibao could still clinch a playoff slot.
Tigres del Licey player Ronny Mauricio won the Santo Domingo Motors award as Most Valuable Player of the 2022-2023 championship. He received a Chevrolet pick-up as prize. He led the league with 54 hits, 15 doubles, and 31 RBIs. He also hit five home runs, stole 11 bases, and scored 26 runs which were all good for second in the league. He also hit .287, the third-best mark in the league. In MLB baseball, the 21-year old played shortstop with the New York Mets’ Double A minor league.
