Guatemala now requires a “B”-type visa for travel

Because of the influx of Dominicans who were found to be using Guatemala as a stopover to get to the southern border of the United States, the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM) is now requiring Dominicans who do not have special status, or a US, Canadian or Schengen visa to request a travel visa.

Until January of this year, Dominicans were exempt from any visa requirements to travel to Guatemala, but now a visa issued by a consular agent is required.

A Type B visa is now in order for Dominicans to enter that Central American nation. This Type-B visa obliges the traveler to present economic solvency, and the visas are only issued for a 90 day period for tourism or study or sports activities.

Currently, Arajet, COPA, Aeromexico and Air Century fly to Guatemala City’s Aurora International Airport.
