Central Bank governor Hector Valdez Albizu opened new coin and stamp collection exhibits for visitors to the institution. The exhibition, “Cultural Inheritance” marks the 179th anniversary of Dominican independence, celebrated every 27 February.
The new display shows off many of the numismatic and philatelic treasures held by the Central Bank. There are exhibits of pieces from the early inhabitants, the Taino Indians, pieces from the era of Spanish colonial rule, as well as several from the African roots of Dominican history. Much of this new exhibition is also dedicated to paper currency and coins that also feature many references to the historical past of the island and the Dominican Republic itself.
