The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) and the Specialized Medical Societies announced on Tuesday, 28 February 2023 that they have canceled the strike they had been holding for months against the affiliates of Universal de Seguros, and ARS Monumental, Renacer, Sigma and Primera de Humano. The medical organizations, nevertheless, say that the ban will continue regarding affiliates of Mapfre health insurance plans.
Caba complained that Mapfre has a campaign of harassment and persecution against protesting medics and says these are being discriminated against in the granting of codes to access the insurance plans.
While laying a wreath at the Altar de la Patria on the occasion of the 179th anniversary of the National Independence, the president of the CMD, Dr. Senén Caba said that if new advances in the talks are not had, they would resume the strikes as of 7 March 2023.
President Luis Abinader has asked Vice President Raquel Peña to help seek a solution to the conflict.
Dr. Senen Caba said the organization would continue to carry out activities to demand a change in the social security system.
