Milagros Ortiz Bosch, the country’s former Vice President (2000-2004) and today director of the Ethics Office of the Abinader administration, blasted the incumbent director of the office of titling of state property, Merido Torres, saying that he should have requested a leave of absence by now. Torres is mentioned as a beneficiary of expropriation legal fees in the mega corruption case being heard in the judiciary, known as Operación Calamar (Operation Squid).
Torres is a high-ranking ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) activist. He aspires to be the party candidate to mayor in Santo Domingo East.
Merido Torres is presently the director of the Technical Executing Unit for the Titling of State Lands (Utect).
