Attorney General Miriam German Brito held a closed-door meeting with Merido Torres, the would-be resigning director of the Technical Executing Unit for the Titling of State Lands (Utect), in the Abinader administration. Torres has said in a press conference on 4 April 2023 that he will request the leave of absence to President Luis Abinader to enable the investigation into his proceedings regarding expropriation payments made to his law firm by the government that are said to be in conflict of interest with his position in government.
The director of Ethics of the Abinader administration, former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch on 23 March 2023 recommended that Torres take a leave of absence. It is not clear if he has taken the leave of absence, or remains the director of the government department.
