Coinciding with the visit of United States Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, local media are announcing the arrival of a new Chinese ambassador, Chen Luning. Luning has yet to present credentials to the Minister of Foreign Relations Roberto Alvarez and then to President Luis Abinader.
Previously, Chen Luning was Deputy Director General at the Department for Latin America and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The last ambassador of the United States in the Dominican Republic was Robin Bernstein, who left the position at the start of the Biden administration in 2021. Bernstein ended her term on 20 January 2021.
