The central coordinator of the Punta Catalina Thermoelectric Plant, Celso Marranzini announced plans to install a solar panel plant to generate 60 megawatts at the coal-fired power plant site. A tender will be held. Marranzini is also looking into the installation of two more plants of 700 megawatts at the same site in Peravia province.
Last week President Luis Abinader issued Decree 142-23 that creates the Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Punta Catalina (EGEPC) in charge of the coal-fired power plant built during the Danilo Medina administration.
