Dominican Pan American medalist Maria Dimitrova inaugurated her Dimitrova Training Academy, a top-notch center for training in martial arts, other combat sports and personal defense and general fitness. Born to Bulgarian parents, Dimitrova moved to Sosua, Puerto Plata with her parents when she was six years old. She went on to become a global competitor in karate.
She is married to two-time Olympic gold medalist Felix Sanchez.
Dimitrova is joined at the Dimitrova Training Academy by Olympic medalist in taekwondo Luisito Pie (bronze in 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games) and by 2008 gold Olympic boxing medalist Felix Diaz. Also on the training staff is Maria García, Pan American medal winner in judo. Dimitrova’s father Valeri Dimitrova will be the personal defense instructor.
The center offers karate, judo, boxing, taekwondo, personal defense and fitness classes. The academy is located at the Plaza Merengue II on 27 de Febrero corner Tiradentes avenues.
