Warm-up games for DR team to the FIBA World Cup

Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), says that Team Dominican Republic will play its arch-rival Puerto Rico in a warm up friendship game to prepare for the World Basketball Cup set for 25 August to 10 September 2023 in Japan, Philippines and Indonesia. The DR will play in Group A against Angola, Italy and host Philippines. The Group A matches will be in Manila, Philippines.

The warm-up game will take place 4 August 2023 at the Jose Miguel Agrelot arena in San Juan, Puerto Rico at 8pm.

The DR will next play Team USA in Las Vegas on 7 August 2023.

ESPN reports that the DR will then match Canada on 18 August and Spain on 19 August in Granada, Granada, Andalucia.

Next the Dominican team will play Egypt on 22 August.

The Dominican Republic won one of the last slots to play for the Americas in the World Cup. The other teams representing the Americas are Brazil, Canada, United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup is a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. The DR has yet to play in the Olympics.
