The Chamber of Deputies created a 15-member committee to investigate “serious misconduct” in the Chamber of Accounts, the governmental audit agency, and present a report in 30 days. The announcement comes after the president of the Chamber of Accounts, Janel Andres Ramirez, revealed serious irregularities impede the production of the requested audits and that decisions that violate the law are being taken. Ramirez and a fellow member, Mario Fernandez are in conflict with three other members of the Chamber of Account — Elsa Maria Catano, Tomasina Tolentino, and Elsa Maria Peña.
The members of the investigating committee are deputies Rogelio Genao, Cesar Santiago Rutinel, Rosendy Polanco, Pedro Tineo, Elias Wessin Chavez, Ruben Maldonado, Plutarco Perez, Mayobanex Martinez, Victor Suarez, Gustavo Sanchez, Saury Mota, Braulio Espinal, Jose Horacio Rodriguez, Brenda Ogando, Santiago Vilorio, Amado Diaz and Lily Florentino.
The Chamber of Deputies reports the effort seeks to determine if there has been serious misconducts. If this is determined, the next step would be a possible impeachment trial to remove the members of the Chamber of Accounts.
In a new development, the director of the Ethics Department of the Abinader administration, former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch acknowledged the Chamber of Accounts has a structural problem.
Congress is also looking into issuing a new law that would give more power to the president of the organization, as reported in Diario Libre.
