Chamber of Deputies clears electronic billing

The Chamber of Deputies gave the needed second reading to the bill to make electronic invoicing mandatory in the country for all individuals and legal entities.

Although it was approved with 99 votes in favor, 57 opposition deputies who were present abstained from voting for the bill. Critics say the new complexities of the electronic invoicing is a heavy burden on small companies and individuals.

The Executive Branch submitted the bill that includes penalties for violating the Taxes Agency (DGII) requirements.

Large taxpayers need to have the systems in place in 2023. Small taxpayers have all of 2024 to adapt to the new electronic invoicing modality.

The new system requires that the DGII validate the invoices and electronic tax documents to support expenses and tax credits.
