In a country where battered women is the norm, a Ukrainian citizen has made news for gender violence. Ukrainian citizen Natalya Kasianova was sentenced to 15 years in prison for battering her Dominican spouse. Her accomplices in the case of torture and extreme violence are Dominicans Michael Jaironel Castillo and Luis Alberto Pineda Medrano. She is accused of brutal actions against her former spouse Miguel Angel Linares.
The incident occurred on 23 May 2022 in the El Cacique sector, National District. The prosecution presented evidence that when the victim, Miguel Angel Linares, attended an appointment to visit Kasianova in her apartment in Torre Ibiza in Autopista 30 de Mayo, he was tied by hand and foot, gagged and beat him throughout the day until he became unconscious. The victim assured that the foreigner witnessed the aggression and recorded it with electronic devices.
During the night, the aggressors transported the victim and threw him near Núñez de Cáceres Avenue. Minutes later, he managed to untie himself and asked passers-by for help.
The Fourth Collegiate Court of the National District adopted the decision after examining the documentary, expert and testimonial evidence presented by prosecutors Leydi Nayra Garcia and Angie Castro, which demonstrated the criminal responsibility of the three defendants in the acts committed against the victim.
The Prosecutor’s Office presented in the process a Forensic Medical Certificate issued by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), which states that Linares presented curable injuries from 11 to 21 days, including a contusive traumatism with edema in the right eye, conjunctival hemorrhage in the right eye, scorch marks in both elbows and wounds in the right thigh.
