Isiah Parnell is new chargé d’Affaires at US Embassy

The United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic has not had an ambassador after political appointee Robin Bernstein left on 20 January 2021. The Dominican Republic named Ambassador Sonia Guzman and she has been in Washington, D.C. from the start of the Abinader administration in August 2020.

The US Embassy announced on Thursday, 25 May 2023 the arrival of Isiah Parnell as the new Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Santo Domingo.

Parnell is a career diplomat, having joined the US Foreign Service in 1984. The US Embassy says he has served in leadership roles in the US embassies in Colombia, Mexico, Kenya, and Jamaica. He has also served in Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Paraguay, and Ghana.

Parnell holds degrees from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in Government and Economics and in Urban Planning/Economics from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

He married in 1984 to Tamice Gordon Parnell and they have four daughters.
