Who could imagine that the Dominican Republic would have twice the number of tourists than Brazil, Argentina or Colombia? But it’s true. Brazil received 3.5 million tourists last year, and the Dominican Republic received over seven million. Brazil is 175 times larger than the Dominican Republic.
The presidential spokesman, Homero Figueroa, said on his Twitter account that much of this success is due to the handling of the Covid pandemic that protected the tourism industry.
Tourism Minister David Collado just recently announced that so far this year over five million visitors have come to the country, and projections are for a ten-million-tourist year for 2023.
The country’s open skies and the continuing signing of new aviation agreements, improvements in infrastructure and strong private investment are central to the continued boom in tourism activities.
