Argentinean soccer star Lionel Messi finally decided where he will be playing. The most popular soccer player announced on 7 June 2023 that he will play with Inter Miami of the MLS in Florida, USA.
Dominicans will now be more closely following Messi as his teammate is emerging Dominican soccer player, Edison Azcona. Azcona is on the Dominican soccer team that qualified to play in the Paris Olympic Games. Azcona played with the Dominican national team in the U20 World Cup and scored the only goal by the team during the tournament.
Azcona has already represented the DR with U-20, U-23 and senior national teams at the international level. Most notably, he made history with the Dominican Republic at the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship, captaining the team to the tournament final and qualifying for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia and the 2024 Olympic Games, the country’s first-ever participation in those competitions.
