Ministry of Public Works accepts to add more crosswalks to San Isidro road

The community insisted and insisted. At the end, the Ministry of Public Works agreed to increase from nine to 21 the exits on the Coronel Rafael Fernández Domínguez Avenue, former San Isidro highway, presently under expansion.

The Ministry of Public Works reported that in coordination with representatives of the community impacted by the widening of the Coronel Rafael Fernández Domínguez Avenue, they will be increasing from 9 to 21 crosswalks along the 5.80 kilometers of the road that are under expansion. The Ministry responded to the demands of representatives of neighborhood councils, merchants, transporters and other sectors.

The Deputy Minister of Road Infrastructure Elías Santana held a meeting with the community to explain the improvements made in the design of the work, after including most of the modifications suggested by residents and merchants of the area.

He said that the new avenue will have eight lanes: four in both directions, including two direct lanes, plus two marginal lanes, nine additional intersections are included in addition to those contemplated in the original design.

The deputy minister agreed the changes will make the modern road safer and adapt it to the housing developments in the area.

The new design includes 21 pedestrian crossings over the 5.8 kilometers, with nine traffic lights, one return, two pedestrian bridges and nine at-grade crosswalks without traffic lights.

“We have modified the wall at the arrival to the intersections with traffic lights, to give more amplitude when arriving, which will have about 1.20 meters, so that, if a pedestrian does not have time to cross the street with the change of the traffic light, he can stay sheltered in that islet and wait for the next change,” he added.

The traffic lights will be placed on Charles de Gaulle Avenue, Penetración, El Progreso (communicates to Mendoza Avenue, Hainamosa, Nuevo Amanecer), Punto Moda, Palmeras Oriental, Brisas Oriental, Residencial Amalia, Prado Oriental and La Hípica streets.

The two pedestrian bridges will give access to Infotep vocational school and the public school of the sector, while the nine crosswalks will be divided among the intersections with traffic lights.
