Medals in diving and men’s volleyball

The Dominican Republic won silver in men’s volleyball in the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games, losing to Cuba 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-22). Progress has been made in the sport. In the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games held in Barranquilla, Colombia, the Dominican men’s volleyball team had placed last. The DR men’s team has never won gold in the event. In 1974 when the games were held in Santo Domingo, the team won silver. Also, the team won silver when playing in Santiago de los Caballeros in 1986.

Likewise, Dominican diver Jonathan Ruvalcaba won silver in the 1m dive in the Games. Judges gave him a score of 376.55 and he was only second to Colombian Sebastian Morales of Colombia, who scored 372.60. Ruvalcaba also won a second silver in the 3m dive. He (428.10) lost to Mexican Diego Garcia (421.60).

The Dominican Republic does not have tradition in diving. Ruvalcaba is a Dominican-Mexican born in Mexico and originally trained and competed for Mexico, before 2019 moving to compete for the Dominican Republic.
