Domingo Contreras: Today begins the road to the defeat of the PRM in the National District

Domingo Contreras officially began his campaign for mayor of the National District on Sunday, 2 July 2023, the day the Central Electoral Board (JCE) set for the official opening of the run for mayor in the Dominican Republic. Hundreds of mayor hopefuls had gotten a head start in the municipal race.

Contreras, who was the candidate to beat, lost the mayor race for the capital city in 2020 after the race was cancelled due to the collapse of the electoral system in February 2020. When the election was reorganized and took place in 15 March 2023, Contreras lost to Carolina Mejia of the PRM.

Contreras announced he is running for mayor for the PLD again. He is optimistic this time, he will defeat the ruling PRM candidate.

After formally registering his candidacy for mayor, Contreras proclaimed the defeat of the ruling PRM at the three levels – presidential, congressional and municipal in the National District. “Let the PRM get ready in the mayoralty and the senatorship in the National District and let Abinader know that his days are numbered,” he said. He pointed out: “E pa fuera que van,” amidst loud applause from followers.
