The Central Electoral Board (JCE) opened last week the pre-campaigning period for the presidential, congressional and municipal elections in 2024, but Politur ordered political promotion to be removed from the Colonial City. Politur is the Dominican touristic police, in charge of maintaining order in touristic areas.
Posters and billboards were removed following orders from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) that oversees the Colonial City, a World Heritage Site since 1990.
The Ministry of Tourism reminds political parties that the Political Parties Law 33-18 bans painting of streets, sidewalks, curbs, electricity poles, trees and any public property with the colors, emblems or symbols of political parties or movements during the pre-campaign period.
