Minister Jesus Vasquez Martinez disallowed the Haitian protest march, “Relief for Haiti” in the Dominican Republic. He denied permission to Haitian expats for the protest demonstration in the Dominican Republic that had been called for Sunday, 9 July 2023.

Vasquez Martinez explained that Art. 122 of General Migration Law 285-04 bans foreigners from organizing activities that may affect social peace, citizen security or public order in the Dominican Republic. Sectors of the Haitian diaspora in the DR had called for a march to demand from the international community a solution to Haiti’s humanitarian and security crisis.

Pastor John Henrys Santana and Miami, Florida pastor Gregory Toussaint, through a simultaneous press conference in Miami and the Tabernacle of God Church, located in Santo Domingo, had called for the Haitian diaspora to protest on 9 July starting at noon. In the DR, the protest march was scheduled to start at the intersection of 27 de Febrero avenue and Manuel de Jesus Troncoso street, in the National District, where the Tabernacle of God Church is located.

Russia and China have voted in the UN Security Council against sending UN security forces to intervene in Haiti, leaving the Dominican Republic to bear the impact of collapse of social services and security in Haiti.
