Cattle rancher loses it all when lightning kills at least 17 of his cattle

It was raining hard and cattle had clustered under a tree in the farm community of El Corozo in Loma de Cabrera, Dajabón province, on the border with Haiti. Reports are that at least 17 cattle were killed when lightning struck. Among the dead are four milk-producing cows, 12 pregnant cows and a bull, according to Ramón Faña, owner of the cattle.

He said the cows had sought protection from the rainfall under a mango tree, which was hit by the electrical discharge. The electrical jolt killed the cows.

Faña acknowledged his losses are big. Each cow is worth around RD$100,000.
