DNCD says new government has seized seven times more than during past government

The Drug Control Agency (DNCD) says it has seized seven times more drugs since August 2020 than the previous government from 2016-2020. Reportedly, the DNCD working with the National Police and Public Prosecutors’ Office, has seized 9.4 million grams of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, crack, ecstasy and other controlled substances.

Law enforcement agencies say that these figures significantly surpass the four years prior to 2020, when only 1.6 million grams of different drugs were seized.

During these drug-combatting operations, some 60 million pesos, more than 500,000 dollars, 600 firearms of different calibers, and approximately 69,000 people have been arrested; 90% of these are Dominicans.

Most of the detainees are between 18 and 33 years old. In many cases the detainees are repeat offenders violating Drugs and Controlled Substances Law 50-88.

The director of the DNCD during the past Danilo Medina administration, Felix Alburquerque Compres is in jail awaiting trial for murder to a sports commentator.
