Hours after the 24-hour strike of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) ended, the union announced more medical consultation freezes for Thursday, 10 August and Friday, 11 August 2023. The CMD is joined by protests of physicians at private clinics in this round of work stoppages.
The physicians seek raises in their pay and improvements in benefits to patients from the highly profitable medical insurance plans (Health Risk Administrators – ARS).
The guild’s president, Dr. Senén Caba is giving the government to Wednesday, 9 August to make a new proposal in line with the doctors’ demands.
Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera recently called for the medical insurance companies to provide coverage for high-cost pharmaceuticals.
