Book Fair and Visual Arts exhibition openings depend on how DR survives Franklin

The 25th Dominican Book Fair is scheduled to open on Thursday, 24 August 2023. Given Tropical Storm Franklin is expected to hit on Wednesday, it is unknown what will happen to the book fair that includes dozens of invited guests from around the world.

The book fair was scheduled to run through Sunday, 3 September and is to be centered this year at Plaza de la Cultura.

This year it is dedicated to writer, poet, essayist and art, novelist and art critics, Jeanette Miller. Some 180 publishing firms and book stores are participating. Israel is the guest country.

The book fair is hosted by the Ministry of Culture. It features dozens of exhibitions, lectures, and, for just the second year, a Comics Pavilion is in the schedule for the enjoyment of all. In the pavilion, visitors can acquire comics that feature historical events of Dominican history.

The Comics Pavilion will feature 35 different activities and will host the 6th Science Fiction and Fantasy Congress of the Caribbean where panelists from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Mexico are scheduled to participate along side of their Dominican hosts.

Likewise, the Ministry of Culture had set the opening of the 30th Visual Arts Biennial exhibition for 22 August 2023. This has been suspended.
