Diario Libre looks into the cons of plastic surgery

The Dominican Republic is a mecca for plastic surgery. Diario Libre reports on the risks of these surgeries, most caused by excesses requested by the clients and accepted by unscrupulous physicians. But there are risks even when the procedures are carried out with the most prepared surgeons. The special report lists several of the costs of the operations carried out in the Dominican Republic.

Diario Libre reveals the local press has reported on 34 deaths due to plastic surgeries in the Dominican Republic over the past 12 years. The Dominican Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates 40,000 plastic surgery procedures are carried out annually.

Diario Libre says that the Ministry of Public Health is aware many many esthetic centers are irregularly carrying out plastic surgery operations. Likewise, many procedures are camouflaged as gynecological or general surgery operations.

Medical tourism is on the rise in the Dominican Republic and plastic surgeries are in demand by those traveling here from abroad.
