President Luis Abinader issued Decree 385-23 on 29 August 2023 authorizing the extradition of Dutch citizen Terence Angelo Richard de Vries. De Vries will be extradited to face charges of possessing 142 grams of cocaine, forgery and asset laundering in 2016 in The Netherlands.
The Presidency reports that De Vries consented to his extradition after he was arrested here.
President Luis Abinader stated during an interview with the Corripio media group on 30 August 2023 that once he leaves the government, he would like to have left the Dominican Republic free of known international mafiosi that have taken residence here.
“I want to leave this country free of international elements involved in mafias. We are deporting more people than ever… We do not want criminals here and will not accept them. We are working very specifically and there is a task force in that regard,” he said during an interview with the Corripio Communications group.
