Once again, the road between Higuey and La Otra Banda claims lives. Over the years, dozens of persons have died on the road between Higuey and La Otra Banda. This past weekend, an accident between two employee-transporting buses left at least nine dead and nearly two dozen others in hospitals in the area.
There were very few details from the accident scene, but, as usual, it involved persons who work in the hotels in Bavaro and Punta Cana, either going to or coming from their places of employment.
Meanwhile, Monsignor Jesus Castro Marte of the La Altagracia diocese in Higuey called for the bus companies to screen the drivers. Most of the accidents are because of imprudent drivers.
As reported, driver Gregorio Yan Martínez, suffered injuries, but his condition is stable. He is hospitalized at the Antonio Musa public hospital in San Pedro de Macorís. Reports are his bus was impacted by another employee bus speeding in the opposite direction.
