
There had been more than 7,000 cases of the seasonal dengue virus. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Public Health reports that the spread has slowed. Deputy Minister for Collective Health Eladio Perez said the virus is now in the plateau phase.
Dr. Perez said that dozens of patients have been affected and have require hospitalization, especially children. He explained that hospitals have space to treat dengue cases with the Hugo Mendoza being the hospital in most demand. Yesterday, 90 patients were admitted to the Hugo Mendoza Hospital, while at the Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital there were 75 children admitted with symptoms of the disease.
When participating in the opening of Wellness Week, Dr. Pérez urged the population to continue with preventive measures such as removing waste from spaces in homes and fumigation to prevent the spread of the disease.
According to the person in charge of hospitals of the National Health Service (SNS), Yocasta Lara, the increase in cases in these centers is because the private clinics are transferring them to the public network.
