Dominican Republic strongly rejects ICHR statements

Ministry of Foreign Relations responded quite firmly regarding the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (ICHR) regarding the persons affected by the decision (Law 168-13) by the Dominican Constitutional Court regarding the conditions required to have Dominican citizenship.

The statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Relations “strongly rejects” the accusations issued by the ICHR saying that the court does not present with any objectivity the situation of Dominican nationality nor does it reflect any of the efforts carried out by the government with regard to Law 169-14, which carried out the requirements concurrent with the sentence 168-13 handed down by the Constitutional Court.

Citing numbers, the ministry demonstrated how over 60,000 persons were provided with Dominican citizenship under the law, and noted that the government works to promote inclusion, equity and non-discrimination within the country.
