Seven million tourists in eight months

With 784,284 visitors arriving by air and sea in August 2023, the Dominican Republic has received more than seven million tourists so far this 2023.

“Overcoming the barrier of seven million visitors in just eight months is a true record. In the Dominican Republic. We should feel proud, because we did it again,” said Minister Collado, when offering statistics on the behavior of the tourism sector in August, in an event held in a hotel in the capital early in September.

He reported that of the 784,284 visitors last month, 665,082 came by air and 119,202 by sea.

In the first eight months of this year, 5,544,778 tourists arrived by air and 1,535,213 on cruise ships.

“We are talking about that in eight months, we received 7,079,991 visitors, 31% more than in 2019, 136% more than in 2021 and 25% above last year,” reported Collado.

The minister highlighted the sustained increase in the arrival of cruise passengers, pointing out that in the January-August period, 1,535,213 visited the country, while last month 119,202 arrived by sea.

Minister Collado expects the goal of 10 million visitors to be reached by year’s end.
